The goal of this project was to design viable options and demonstrate to Air Force leaders how we might simplify, accelerate, and increase the agility of Air Force C2 operations that integrate warfighting domains into a single virtual and/or physical construct that fully leverages the technical capabilities of current and emerging technologies

Approximately 15 cadets, broken into two teams, worked on the MDC2 problem throughout the course of a semester. They were joined by industry partners from Microsoft, LinQuest, and Vigilant, who worked alongside them and provided context and years of experience in related fields.

Cadets teamed with industry and worked on two different angles of MDC2. One group concentrated on the planning aspect while the other focused on the “find” area of MDC2, particularly combat search and rescue.

Teams discovered that the current system of MDC2 is stove-piped and cannot meet mission requirements with the efficiency and speed necessary for quality decision making.

Strike Package Automator
This artificial intelligence solution would leverage previous decisions made by Combat Planners combined with analysis of available assets and requirements in real-time.

• Training Program: program to assist in the transition from combat planners doing all the work themselves, to planner and automator co-creating the strike package
• Tiger Planning Team: team made up of Combat Mission Planners from all domains with intention to eliminate cultural barriers among planners and decision-makers

 

Air Force Pararescue

• Chain of Command: Adding Combat Rescue Officers (CRO) and Special Tactics Officers (STO) to the chain of command, the effectiveness and readiness of the BA may be improved.
• Training: Creating a support tech school would prepare personnel for the nuances and special skills needed to be successful in a BA squadron or a virtual training course could be offered to support personnel upon getting to the BA squadron.
• Testing and Evaluation: Improve communication of Combat Rescue’s needs for new or improved equipment using an application that can be made available to Combat Rescue, testing units, and contractors to allow for quick and easy submission of requests.
